4 Ways Make Up Missed Lessons

  •  Book a Reschedule at farrguitarstudio.com/schedule.
    • I keep 3 hours open on my schedule every week, and students are constantly canceling. Please bookmark the schedule link in your browser and check regularly to snag open times.
    • If you are unable to find a time, please contact me by email or text, and I can try to find a time!
  • Request a custom transcription/video lesson.
    • Instead of a normal lesson, send me a song that you love, and I will transcribe it specifically for your ability level. I will send you the relevant PDFs and a short video demonstration.
      • While tabs, sheet music, and instructional videos are readily available online, they are often flawed, overly complex, or not at the right difficulty level for your musical journey.
  • Come to Community Events
    • The biggest difference between successful musicians and those who continually struggle is a musical community. This involves 3 things: performing, jamming, and attending live shows.
    • There are 2 events that I host that will ensure that you get the immersion benefits of a musical community.
      • The Songwriters' Open Mic @ the Cactus Cafe (Public Event)
        • We meet every Tuesday night at 7 at the Cactus Cafe on UT campus.
      • FGS Song Circles/Jam Sessions (Private Event)
        • We meet periodically in the back room at my studio to share music and practice improvisation.
        • These can also be done online by request.
  • Take the video courses at Guitarwise.io.
    • Once I have taught a concept for years, I create a video course and upload it to GuitarWise. I recommend watching the courses multiple times to grasp the content fully.

FAQs

  • Why can't lessons be prorated?
    • Life is busy, and there will always be a reason to miss lessons.
      • By not prorating, it will cause you to have to use one of the "4 ways to make up lesson time," which will ultimately make you a better musician, faster.
    • As I have been teaching since 2006, I have seen many music teachers give up on their business and pursue different careers. This is due to the unpredictability of income as a musician.
      • By not prorating, I am ensuring that I can sustainably teach for the long term.
  • What if I am on vacation for a month (or longer)?
    • Good for you! You deserve a vacation. There are several ways we can handle this.
      • If you value keeping your lesson time and don't mind paying full price, you can keep me on retainer in case you want transcriptions or Zoom lessons on your trip.
      • If you need to optimize your budget, I will charge 50% the first month you are gone and 50% the month you come back.
        • This ensures that you can keep your spot without losing a penny!
        • For a 2-month (or longer) vacation, I will charge 50% for the first 2 months and then the normal rate for additional months.
    • You may also give up your lesson time if you prefer to touch base after you're settled.
      • While I will do my best to get you back on my roster as soon as you get back, I am typically on a waiting list, and it could be a matter of weeks or months.
  • Why do you only do 11 sessions per season instead of 4 per month?
    • I offer 11 sessions per 3-month season to accommodate holidays and vacations. This brings each 1/2 hour lesson to a total of $38 and each hour lesson to a total of $76.
      • This is cheaper than I charge my one-off clients ($80/hour), and you get the added benefits of my online courses, custom transcriptions, and community events.
    • Also, if budget is a concern for you, please feel free to talk to me about it. One of the joys of running my own business is that I can take into consideration your unique circumstances.
