After my students have mastered several songs on one string of the guitar, I then teach them how to compose/improvise with a horizontal minor pentatonic scale. Does that sound like greek to you?
If so go ahead and watch the video above. It can actually be very simple and is one of the most common scales used by rock, blues, and country guitarists. This is a good first step to becoming a composing and or improvising guitarist. Once you feel comfortable with the pentatonic scale shown in the video, I encourage you to look up backing tracks on youtube in the key of E minor and to play along with them. Here are a few of my favorites!
Until next time!
